1. Dubai attractions Desert Safari
If you happen to go to Dubai, do not just indulge yourself in the city shopping, for Dubai attractions Desert Safari, offers an unforgettable thrilling ride out of this world which no tourists should miss.
The trip starts at 3pm and would not end till about 10pm when you reach your hotel. The ride at Desert Safari is thrilling. The 4×4 Wheel takes you through the vast desert. After a short photo-taking session and sand playing time of about 30 minutes, the real fun begins. From then it’s up and down the sand dunes at quick speed. The land cruiser maneuvered and bashed through the many sand dunes with the driver showing off his driving skill the way Formula One did. It was nothing more than what one experience in a Disneyland’s ride, but the ride due to its long duration, of about 45mins travelling from one end to the other, could cause discomfort in some. The trip is certainly not suitable for children under 7 years old and the aged.
From time of departure at hotel to the desert, until the next stop where you got to enjoy a sumptuous meal, it took about 2 hours, so it’s advisable to have a good toilet-break before you leave for the trip. Also try not to have a heavy meal, in case the bumpy ride upsets your stomach.
The admiration of the desert comes even before the destination was reached. Camels, camels everywhere, it was a prelude to the exciting tour we had anticipated from the very moment you step out of the car and onto the fine desert sand. Get your hands to ‘taste’ the super fine sand, collect some as a souvenir. While on the ride do not forget to enjoy the fantastic view of sand dunes, its simply breath-taking! By the way, do not worry about the weather, its not even warm, the constant breezy wind is a delight.
The fineness of the sand is beyond imagination, suddenly it was ‘Yesterday Once More’, when adults behave like children, splashing the sand all over the place, or were even seen rolling on it, we had so much fun with the sand and even collected a bottle of it as souvenir.
Prior to arrival, we thought the place would be hot or at least warm, to prepare for it, we wear less and simple, even preparing bottles of water. But we got it all wrong, instead, the place was quite breezy, we didn’t even perspire.
Tourists would idle around on the sandy desert, doing something or doing nothing. The scenic desert is such a beauty that admiration came through everybody’s eyes. While there, or during the bashing, witness the art of God, observe how the traces of footprints we left behind were amazingly clear away almost instantly by the breeze. The power of nature is almighty!
Coming from the city-state of Singapore, it’s intrigueing to see the sand slithers across the desert surface and sand dunes like a snake.
Almost everyone tried that thrilling Sand Boarding, sitting on a board and slide down the sandy slope.Do not worry if you trip and fall, the fine sand is there to cushion your fall.
At the peak of one of the ‘mountain’, we were glad to have finally conquered the towering sand dune! The climb was certainly well worth it, when the reward was the sublime desert landscape.
Warning : If you find it interesting and had decided to come for the tour, my suggestion is never book it through your homeland local travel agencies. They charged an exorbitant price so high that if you are to find out from the tour visitors here, you might want to bury your head under the sand. Prior to arrival, our tour agency put the price at US$150 per person, because we have two free-and-easy day in Dubai, we decided to book the tour ourselves. We paid a total of US$180 for 4 persons, that was a saving of 300%. Well, that’s good value, good place and great fun!
The Desert Safari is a very popular tour, it’s advertised on the local newspaper in pages (see above picture), all you need is a call to them. After all, it’s not difficult to find a tour agencies here. Even booking through the hotel could save you a big sum.
2. Desert Safari – camel ride
The fun of Dubai Desert Safari is endless. After the thrilling ‘roller coaster ‘ride, it’s already around 7pm, it’s time for dinner. But wait, the camels are waiting for you. Visitors soon arrived at an Oasis and a Camel Farm.
One great disaster in this trip was the fine sand got into my camera lens. The lens stubbornly refused to zoom and focus for a long period, depriving me of the pleasure of capturing the many great moments we enjoyed with the camels and the rides. Attached are some pictures I hoped you readers could tolerate.
The worst thing … but also the fun part about the camel ride is when it suddenly rises after tourists is ‘on board’. When it reaches the destination, it sits suddenly, these sudden ascend and descend, though is under command by the keeper, can be very scaring, most rider got a fright out of it.
Oh yes, never miss the sunset at the desert, it’s simply gorgeous. We were on the wheel when I suddenly realized that sunset can be this beautiful, how nice nature is to us.
3. Dubai Desert Safari- the BBQ Dinner
After the exciting ride we were lead to enjoy a sumptuous buffet dinner. The portion of food, however, was tightly ration and control, though there was a free flow of drinks and Arabian coffee. Not long after the dinner started, various performances was put on stage. The most popular one was certainly the belly dancing by the many beautiful and sexy Arabian lady dancers. Meanwhile, do not forget to make a purchase of the DVD copy on the Desert Safari ride taken earlier. But beware, you might be taking the ride, but the videographer might not have taken your picture. We paid USD$25 for a copy, only to find out that we were featured less than 10 seconds in the 20 minutes long DVD. But we were satisfied with it , after all what we wanted was to relive that precious moments.
The food was average but we had to finish it fast as the occasional strong breeze has the fine sand flying all over the place.
The artist has a hand of colourful sand inserted into the bottle through the tiny opening, in less than 2 minutes, he magically created a piece of art on the desert. We were quite amazed by this Sand Arts that we bought a few bottles as souvenir and gift.
This artist provides great service, he would do the Sand Arts demonstration upon requested, my kids pestered him several times and he never felt annoyed.
** All said, the Sand Bashing is not without danger, it could trip or overturn. We were warned by the helpdesk when we booked the tour.
