Travelling from Suvarnabhumi Airport To Bangkok City Centre has never been much easier, as there are 2 main modes of transportation to the city: Airport Rail ( train) and Taxi.
Very useful information is displayed prominently at the baggage collection area: VAT Refund, train to the city and taxi charges.
How to take the Train to the city or Airport Rail Link is clearly shown at the baggage collection area.
After picking up your luggage, upon exit from the restricted area is the arrival hall ( yellow coloured arrow). Your friends, colleagues and relatives will be waiting for you there ( blue coloured arrow).
All said, Suvarnabhumi Airport is not that big, it’s fairly easy to navigate around even without the informative direction signage.
Where to take the train and where to get a taxi, the big signboard tells visitor everything!
Straight after custom clearance is the arrival hall, just steps away from it are the usual basic services most visitors need.
The most popular is always the booth that offers internet and handphone services. Go get your local SIM card here!
Taxi Charges From Suvarnabhumi Airport To Bangkok City Centre
A taxi ride to the city cost about THB$500 or USD$14.30. There is a surcharge (because it’s from the airport) of THB$50 in addition to the final metered fare.
When you board, the taxi captain will ask if you want to go by highway, if you choose to, you need to pay the tolls for the highway, which is usually THB$25 , and THB$50 for the whole journey.
For taxi service do proceed to the first floor. Because of the popularity of the train, there are few takers for taxi.
There is an automated ticketing machine. Passenger needs to get a ticket first, and then go to the respective car lot indicated to board the taxi. The taxi is just steps away from the queue.
By the way, a metered taxi ride from Sukhumvit to the airport cost THB$400 or USD$11.40 (all in, including toll fee).
Airport Rail Link To Bangkok City Centre
I’ve been to Bangkok countless time, always taking taxi to the city. This time I prefer to try the Airport Rail Link . The Airport Rail Link is located at the basement.
Plenty of eateries and restaurants over here.
The train to the city is just beside those restaurants.
The Airport Rail Link trains arrive every 15 minutes, starting from 6am till midnight.
A train ride to the city cost THB$35 ( My destination is Makasan station) or USD$1.00. The journey is about 30 minutes, duration taken is very similar to taking a taxi. But do note that Taxi to the city cost you THB$500.

Do note the procedure for taking the train. When the train arrives, do not board immediately. Stand aside to allow those on board to alight first. Once all have alighted, a security guard will comb the train for security issues, thereafter, he will signal to commuters for boarding.
As always, there are plenty of unoccupied seats in the train.
25 minutes later I arrived at my destination: Makasan Station. The train will continue its journey to 2 more stations: Ratchaprarop, and finally stops at Phaya Thai station.
Luggage Deposit At Airport Rail Link
Most of the Airport Rail-link offers a service few places has: Luggage deposit.
It cost THB$120 or USD$3.43 for a whole day of luggage deposit. It’s very convenience for those who has already check-out of the hotel with luggages but still has places to go. A very thoughtful service from the transport authority!
From here I have the options of taking a train ride or taxi to my destination.
If you prefer to take a taxi, boarding fare starts at THB$35 or USD$1.00, remind the captain to switch on the meter. No problem with that, they always do it. But you are in overseas, always be alert!
For lone traveller I think taking the Airport Rail Link is much worth. A taxi can carry 4 people, it is more economical, the average cost is very similar to taking the Airport Rail.
Welcome to Bangkok!
